#WelshWarriors Football Team - Unbeaten this year!

3 Royal Welsh’s football team are through to the next round of the Army Reserve Cup and are looking forward to winning their first trophy!

3 Royal Welsh moved into the quarter-finals of the Army Reserve Cup with a hard fought 1-0 win against 167 Regiment RLC at Vauxhall Motors in Ellesmere Port. A strong wind made playing conditions difficult and an experienced RLC team that contained five members of the Army Reserve side made a tough and challenging contest.

It took a well taken header by Fusilier Luke Fountain on the stroke of half time to break the deadlock and give the Royal Welsh a deserved lead. In the second half they missed three great chances to put the tie beyond doubt with Officer Cadet Gainham, Lance Corporal Birch and Fusilier Butler all going close and Birchy was unlucky to not be awarded a penalty as he closed in on goal.

As the final whistle got closer they nearly paid the price for the missed chances with Lance Corporal Martin Owen having to clear off the line to prevent an equaliser. But as the game drew to a close 167 Regiment found themselves unable to breach a strong Royal Welsh defence that is yet to concede a goal whilst playing at Vauxhall Motors.

With the draw for the quarter finals already made, they’ll face either a long trip to Scotland to play 71 Engineer Regiment or a far shorter journey to 156 Regiment RLC in the North West of England. Keep an eye on our social media feeds to find out where are next game is.
